The Lord Almighty - Part 4

 Introduction

Genesis 17:1 “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Over here we see that the Lord God introduces himself as an Almighty God. The Hebrew word ‘Elshaddai’ would mean the Lord almighty. In the above passage we see the Lord who is an almighty God makes a covenant to Abraham. In Genesis 17:2 ‘And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.’ Here our Lord promises to bless Abraham in a multiplied manner. The hands of the Lord almighty blessed the entire generation of Abraham.

In Genesis 43:14 ‘And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.’ As we read in this passage, the Lord almighty gives mercy to his children. There will be a perpetual mercy on the day to day lives of the children of God. The main reason why God allowed the famine in the land of Egypt is to bless the life of Joseph. The plans that God purposed concerning the life of Joseph not only blessed him but also his entire family. The hands of the almighty elevates the life of Joseph by bringing in a famine in the land. But when there was a famine in the land of Canaan, it was very clear that the Lord had a plan behind it. If the Lord almighty did not allow the famine in the family of Jacob, they would not have come to the land of Egypt. The famine made them to move to the land of Egypt which was the ultimate will of the Lord God. And they lived a royal life in Egypt. The mercy of the Lord almighty blessed them in such a way that they lived their life in a royal way. Let us discuss how the almighty led them and trained them to attain the blessings in the land of Egypt.

The act of Giving

Genesis 43:11 ‘And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Here the Lord almighty instructs them to get gifts. The Lord God did not want them to go there empty handed. The Lord wanted them to pick choicest gifts. We read in Genesis 33:10 ‘And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.’ We can see the gifting attribute of Jacob to his brother. Therefore, even in our lives our Lord almighty wants us to be giving. We the children of the Lord should be faithful in our offerings. When we make it a point to give more to the Lord God, we will be blessed abundantly.

Faithfulness

Genesis 43:12 ‘And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

Over here we see the Lord God wants them to take the money in double fold. The Lord God wants his children to be faithful as far as the money is concerned. In Luke 19:8 ‘And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.’ In this passage we can see the faithfulness of Zacchaeus. This is what the Lord almighty expects his children to be. Let us all make sure that we act faithful and diligent in our lives.

Trust in God

Genesis 43:13-14 ‘Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man: And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

In the above passage we can see, that he puts his trust on the Lord almighty and sends his son. Had he sent his son on the first time itself, this would not have happened. The temptation time also would have been reduced. Earlier, there was a lack of faith on the Lord God. And now in the later part, he sends out his son finally. Even in our lives, we must invest our faith on the Lord almighty. This will pave the way to obtain the blessings from the Lord God.

Repentance

Genesis 42:21 ‘And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

When we read the above passage, we can sense the divine repentance. All these while they were not guilty of their deeds. But in the end, they repented genuinely. In Genesis 44:16 ‘And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord's servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.’ The Lord God expects a genuine repentance from each and every one of us. Let us discern our lives and plead guilty in the presence of the Lord. We see when they repented, the Lord accepted them and blessed their lives abundantly. Therefore, we the children of God should also repent for all our wrong doings in our lives. May the almighty God bless us abundantly. Amen.
